Messingham Primary fall just short after a remarkable run in the Premier League Primary Stars tournament.

The Iron Foundation receives funding to offer local schools the Premier League Primary Stars. The free programme offers children in local schools the opportunity to take part in high-quality PE sessions whilst receiving mentoring during Maths, English and reading sessions from The Iron Foundation staff.

As part of the funding, local schools can enter a tournament delivered by The Iron Foundation to win the right to represent Scunthorpe United at the regional finals.

The tournament started way back in November of last year. Messingham won the local tournament, beating 7 other local schools to earn the right to represent SUFC at the regional finals held at Hull City. On the day the girls beat Grimsby Town, Harrogate Town, York City, Hull City and Boston United to progress to the National Finals held at Molineux Stadium, Wolverhampton Wanderers.

A total of 104 clubs participated in local tournaments across the country. Messingham Primary made it to Wolves as one of the remaining 20 schools representing their clubs, which is a fantastic achievement.

On the day the girls beat Oxford Utd, Notts County, and West Brom, but unfortunately, their competition came to an end with a loss to Brentford, who went on to beat Southampton in the final to become eventual winners.

It was also a special day for our Community Manager Gav Cooper as his daughter Thea was a member of the Messingham girls’ team.

On behalf of The Iron Foundation and Scunthorpe United, we would like to thank the girls for doing us proud.
